Does anybody have a contact inside of Apple?

Preferably somebody in customer service / tech support + repair? To make a long story extremely short, my laptop is having its logic board replaced for the 4th time in the past 3 months (twice while it was still in their possession) and I need to speak to someone about it. I've had nothing but good experiences so far with the company, but their technicians have really screwed the pooch with this one.

Got it Scott, thanks.

I discussed this with Pinned and am pursuing this with Apple per his suggestions. I'll keep this thread updated with what happens.

Meanwhile, if anybody else has a contact I can get in touch with, let me know. I'll be happy to share my experience off the forum with anybody that can help.

Thanks guys.

I had my logic board go out 3 times within 2 months and they stepped up to the plate and got me a new computer after that.

best of luck.

Board failures are quite rare. While I can't offer any direct line of communication to Apple (nor would it do much good, there are specific channels for such things), it would probably be helpful if you went into more detail as to your problem.

Whole machine replacements generally only happen if certain criteria are met.

^They are giving me a new computer. Meanwhile, mine is on its way back from the repair center. If it works, I will back everything up and then send it off to them. Here's the gyst of what happened.

On or about January: Following months of having issues with the computer freezing, followed by the screen flickering and then going black, I took my MbP in to my local Mac Store with a copy of the bulletin re extended warranty on logic boards. They write me up and keep the computer for a week, returning it to me with a new logic board (per the receipt). Computer works fine for a few months and then the problem starts to come back intermittently, until finally it just stopped rebooting approximately 2 weeks ago.

In the past two weeks, the following has happened.

I make an appointment to drop the computer off again. Deal with customer service who says that although the new logic board is beyond its warranty period by about a month, they will take care of it. I am delighted and leave the computer with them.

Approximately 3 days later, I get a call and go to pick up the computer. At the store, we turn the computer on to test it and the screen starts to go black intermittently. They attempted to update the software and in the middle of the update, the computer completely shut off. I note that on the receipt, in addition to the new logic board, there is a new battery that was replaced. Thinking that might be it, they go tear open yet another new battery and install it. No difference. The computer will boot up, run the OS and then after a few minutes, screen goes black and it shuts off.

Manager is called and he says that they must send the computer to Apple headquarters in Cupertino so that the engineers there can replace the logic board (I have since found out that this is false, they actually sent it to Texas). They offer to have it mailed directly from hq to my home. I decline and say that I would prefer it came back to the store and for them to test it and make sure everything works before I come and get it. I sign some paperwork and leave.

Sunday I get a call from the store (after about 5 to 6 days) saying the computer came back, but its not working properly at all and that they must send it out for yet another logic board. The lead time is again 5 to 7 days. Another week without a computer...

Monday I call 1-800-APL-CARE to get to the bottom of this and figure out what exactly is going on with my computer, and come to find out that they replaced the motherboard on its first trip to Texas and that the computer is on its way back to be re-diagnosed and repaired again. At this point I was not ok with getting the computer back and requested that I be given a new one. I was told that this was going to be an extenuating circumstance due to the computer being so far out of warranty. Somebody higher up would have to look at the case and make the final decision and that I'd be contacted within 24 hours with a decision.

Tuesday afternoon I get a call with good news, they will be replacing the computer. I have to go and retrieve mine from the Apple store tomorrow, stick it in a box and mail it to them. Once they've receieved it, they will mail me out a brand-new Macbook Pro 15".
