I have the 11" w/ the maxed out specs (1.6/4gb/128ssd) and I average around 4 hours at full brightness and multiple programs running. My best friend has the 13" w/ the maxed out specs and averages around 6 hours. Apple claims 5 and 7 for those units, so take off about an hour if you plan on using full brightness and having more than one or two programs/browser windows open.

The battery life for Macs is amazing. I have a two year old Macbook Pro that gets over 4 hours from each charge with itunes and safari open. The only thing that hurts me is when I start watching all the videos that get posted here lol

If I'm just browsing the internet, I'll get 7-8 hours. I was able to watch two movies on the plane today and it only dipped to 40%.

Apple's ratings are fairly accurate under typical loads. Subtract about an hour if you're really sucking up the juice.

I have the new style 13" air. I'd say I average 6 hours. Standby time is great, but I rarely use it for 6 hours straight not plugged in though, so can't say for sure.
