2010-16M is an unknown quantity at this point
New MacBook Pro 2010

Will there be a new one coming out this year? Anyone know?
Was about to purchase one this weekend but realized it had no HMDI output (like all PCs do).
You had to buy and adapter (typical Apple trying to push more products and control everything).

MBPs have a MiniDisplayport. You can, as you noted, get an adapter to use it with DVI displays. There is no chance they'll "regress" the new design to include a DVI port.

It has crap all to do with "controlling everything", and everything to do with being at the cutting edge of adapting new technology, and making everything play nice within the form factor.

This is why you don't see Macs with parallel and ps2 ports.

Wednesday during the press release. But that might not concern the MBP's.

He asked about HDMI, not DVI unless I am going blind, which is a fair question. Why Apple continues to push their own proprietary connector, when almost every tv and computer display has adopted HDMI is fairly stupid on their part.

On a separate note, MBPs are due for a processor upgrade and it may come this Wednesday. I would wait.

That is not entirely true. The DisplayPort technology was around for years before Apple adopted it. The company is owned by AMD/ATI, and the technology was implemented on some of their products long before Apple decided to use it. DisplayPort is currently being used on products from Dell, Lenovo and HP. Apple and Toshiba are using the more compact version called Mini DisplayPort.
There are some benefits to its use, and the reason you likely see it on Apple products is there is no licensing fee like there is with HDMI.
HDMI is more mature and robust, and is currently the superior option for the best performance possible. Apple will probably switch over at some point, as they are a very slow adopter as evidenced by the obsolete hardware currently being used in nearly their entire computer line.

For all practical purposes, the same thing.

1) Packaging. It's smaller than DVI/HDMI.

2) It works better in laptop applications.

The technology was developed by VESA. Nobody "owns" the technology. Apple, much like other vendors, simply implemented the specification.

Mini Displayport however, is an Apple permutation which is offered in the same spirit as Displayport.

Uh-huh. Next they'll be adding PS2 ports and floppy drives to keep up with the bleeding-edge PC market.

Apple uses old hardware. No "uh-huh"s around that one. They are a very late adopter. They are still selling their flagship notebook with a Nvidia 9600, which is three generations old, and the machine still sells at a premium price. The only product they sell that is current is the newest full sized iMac. Even the Mac Pros are behind. For the very high prices that their machines cost, they should at least keep pace with every other computer maker.
