ITunes 9: Home Sharing

Anyone else having trouble with Home Sharing?

I cannot get it to work no matter what I do.

I have two 3 pc's and one Mac in the house. No matter which one I log into Home Sharing on, the moment I press "done" on the Home Sharing page, the Home Sharing icon, and the Sharing icon itself disappears; on every computer.

A little while ago I tried an experiment. I logged out of Home Sharing on my main PC, then logged back in, I did not press the "done" button because I did not want Home Sharing to disappear.

Then I ran upstairs to my wifes Mac. I logged out of Home Sharing and logged back in again, I did not press the "done" button; and I let it sit. All of a sudden, it recognized my PC, but it did not show the library. Mind you, I've shared my iTunes entirely in the preferences. Then as quick as it popped up, recognizing my PC it was gone. And the Home Sharing and Sharing icons disappeared again.

That is one helluva major bug to make it out into a new release!

Anyone have a fix? There isn't even a fix listed with Apple Support yet.

Haven't had any problems with it thus far, but then I'm not involving a doze box in the mix. I'll keep an eye open if I come across anything.

Yeah, I've seen a few people complain about this on mac forums, but I haven't had a problem myself.

Have you searched mac forums?

Yea, actually I registered at the Mac forums because I saw a few guys with the exact same issue.

At this point, I've uninstalled iTunes on all of the machines and reinstalled it, same problem.

Simba, a doze box? WTH is that? Is our forum kitty being a smartass?

Doze. Meaning Windoze. Meaning a PC. While I do have a few of them, they exist primarily for engine tuning software and occasional compatibility testing with IE. Otherwise they sit in a corner and are mocked relentlessly.

LOL! And I thought that I'd heard em all!
Good one!

I still can't get the damn home sharing to work. The Mac support folks have been totally absent. It is almost as if those hippies at Apple are trying the ignore and it'll go away approach to bug fixes.

I like the hippies at Apple better than the hippies in Redmond.

Home sharing works pretty good between my Vista-powered laptop and my XP-running desktop. Only thing that gets me is that it only lets me import songs from one to the other one at a time instead of in a group.

Can't argue with that...
Since my biz partner is a monster code guy, I don't have too many MS problems.

I'm just surprised that there hasn't been a bug fix from Apple yet. There are enough people who cannot get home sharing to work, that it is a big bug.
