Its an extremely rare and beautiful animal that lives in the rocky mountain regions of central asia and is extremely rare to spot in the wild.

Quite an amazing animal if you ask me.
Oh, and its also the name of some new Mac OS software.

That, it certainly is. While a cheap operating system is nice, Snow Leopard is barely more than a service pack and should be free. Even Microsoft isn't that greedy.

Not to argue with you, but I don't recall a MS Service Pack ever opening up new features at the user interface level. Without doubt, the service packs for XP seemed to improve the stability of the systems and there certainly could have been new user features, but I'm unaware of them.
I have to use both platforms, and I'm happy to pay thirty bucks for an improved software suite. I've spent more than that in my time maintaining and debugging my Windows computers. I don't expect the folks at Apple to work for free- those of us who are living good lives should be the last to cast aspersions at like-minded people. If Snow Leopard was considerably more expensive, I'd certainly agree with you.

Snow Leopard's "upgrades" are not significant enough to be considered a new OS. It still isn't even a true 64 bit platform yet.
No one works for free at Microsoft, their service packs are free, and they often are able to release updates within hours of a known problem. Sometimes it will take Apple weeks to offer updates to repair issues with their software and hardware.
As long as they keep selling songs, iPods and Kool-aid, no one at Apple will be working for free.

fixes to all the blaring deficiencies in the original version of the software.
I'd also agree that it isn't completely 64bit but by far its the closest commercially supported software that is available for the mainstream user. Granted I left the Windows fan club when MS tried to shove Vista down my throat so my information may be outdated.

Give Windows 7 a try, seriously. I stuck with XP during Vista's tenure and can appreciate some of the frustration people have had with it, although it did improve after SP1. Windows 7 is pretty monumental, and will have a lot of people second guessing all of the other operating systems on the market.

Josh, I have every intention to give 7 a chance, but they really pissed off a lot of folks with their antics from Vista. Besides, Windows will always rule the corporate world; you will be assimilated regardless...I just hope it's less painful this time around.
