OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Details

Annoying name aside, the details of Snow Leopard have been released at today's Keynote.

Some of the big ones:

- Available in September.
- $29 upgrade.
- Intel processors only. (Something of a surprise, but, eh)
- Huge increase in Exchange support across OS and all i* apps.
- Expose built into Dock.
- Preview performance tweaks.
- Safari 4, now with double plus faster javascript.
- Way-mega improved multiple processor support (multicore)
- OpenCL

Overall a "make Leopard better and faster" release, but with a few curve balls thrown in. It's no small irony that 10.6 will likely have the best Exchange experience of any OS.

Better Exchange support? Does that mean I can use mail and calendar with Exchange directly?

Sucks for us PowerBook G4 users... Speaking of which, if you guys know anyone that wants a 17" PB G4 w/4GB RAM and 80GB HD for $1K-ish, let me know. I want a MacBook Air and an iPhone...

Yes, Microsoft provided the protocol specs, due largely to several large customers threatening to dump Exchange if iPhone/exchange awesomeness didn't happen.

fixed it for you...ill believe that when i see it which includes seamless osx desktop support...to me that's worth $29, but apple will have a helluva an enterprise buy in on this release if this is truly the case.

you can already download safari 4. Using it right now.

The new Iphone looks nice, better processor plus video. Kinda wish I didn't get mine a year ago.

Oh...this would be AWESOME! Right now, I hate having to use a web based outlook for our exchange based email server @ U of C. And, thanks to the neutering of Entourage in the academic version...I can't even freaking use Entourage on my laptop without having to buy the full version of Office.

I've been burned enough though by Microsoft to not hold my breath until I see it...
