VERY large (>1TB) iTunes library management (Do I have to abandon auto mgt)?
I posted this thread on a mac forum, but thought I'd cross post here:

What do you guys think or recommend?
VERY large (>1TB) iTunes library management (Do I have to abandon auto mgt)? - Mac Forums
I have a lot of video files (TV & Movie) and store on a 1.5 TB drive. I have a 2 TB drive that I use for Time Machine backups and it currently backs up my iTunes library.
I'm now hitting some storage problems. My Time Machine drive is running out of space as my iTunes folder keeps growing.
In iTunes, I use these options to have it automatically managed by iTunes:
Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized
and
Copy Files to iTunes music folder when adding to library
I like these options, but now am wondering if I can keep using them.
My assumption is that I'm going to have to keep my movie & tv files on another drive and do a manual backup of those files (no longer using time machine), but in order to do that, will I then have to manually manage all my music files too?
I've done searches and have found 100's of posts on library management, but none addressed this.
How are those with exceptionally large iTunes libraries managing? Do you have to uncheck the above options? Other thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Getting larger than 2 TB is VERY expensive and not worth it really.

I am in a similar boat and handle things separately. I have iTunes set to manage my collection (as you do), and keep all music stored in my user folder (default iTunes location) on the internal drive. That way it is covered with time machine (wirelessly which is nice as well).
For TV and Movies, I store them on an external drive (1.5TB). When I have a new file I want to add to iTunes from that drive, I drag it into the iTunes window holding down the Option key -- this overrides the default management behavior and simply adds it to your library from its current location.
So if I get new music, I drag it into iTunes and it copies the tracks into the correct places since it manages them. With TV/Movies, just hold down the option key and the files stay put on the other drive.

Now I just need to figure out how to move my movies & tv to another drive without having to re-add them to iTunes. Maybe I turn off iTunes management, and move them to a new location, then turn it back on and do your Option/Drag each time.
