Spyware?

I just got my macbook a couple of months ago. It was working perfect until lately it's starting to get slow and sometimes stuck when running multiple tast. I'm no computer genius but i guess its the latest spec, I think 2.4G ram memory.

Is it possible that I've got spyware? If yes which anti-virus programs do you guys recommend? Im using Safari btw, which i thought cant catch spyware.

Thanks in advance.

I would not be concerned with Spyware, I have yet to hear of/experience any. Couple of things to ensure a nice speedy computer:
1) Restart the computer
2) Run Disk Utility (Use spotlight). Click Macintosh HD, and Run "Repair Permissions". I usually do it twice consecutively.
3) Ensure that nothing is left open if its not in use. Things like Photoshop, or iTunes are resource hogs. If it's still running slow, examine your hard drive. If it's full, that would slow down your computer. Consider then investing in an external.
4) If your running multiple large programs (ex. Photoshop, iTunes, Microsoft Office) all at the same time, consider investing in more RAM. It's cheap, and easy to install yourself.
