I am about to make the jump...where should I purchase it? There has to be a cheaper place than the retail stores...

Thanks!

Not really.

go online - go to education section and enter your old student number/12345678 and you will get ~150 off (I think). Thats about it.

Or if you really want to cheat the system, you can use the Apple Developers Discount (provided you sign up for 1 year) and use their 1 time only (and they mean it - they take down SS number/DL number if i remember correctly) discount and get a $2500 MBP for ~1600 I think.
(I dont support this, but if you were to look online hard enough you would find it anyways)

But dont quote me on that.

I'm thinking of making the leap too... As I get worse, err... better with my camera, and keep butchering video's... I've come to enjoy the ease of use in my wifes iMac. Combine that with the awful performance of the laptops that I bought for my company, I'm ready to give a Mac a try personally.

As far as pricing, it seems that Apple keeps a tight reign on who sells their stuff, and what they sell it for.

If you want a stock laptop, I would get it from Amazon, for the most part, no tax and free shipping.

The truth.

I forgot about two other options to find "deals".
1) Apple Refurbished Store. I have hear great things about here. check daily as they usually update it in the morning. Great if you dont need the current gen.
2) Apple Clearance. Same as above, but just brand new units, although usually a touch more epensive.

Apple doesn't allow VARs or the retail stores to discount any more than what you'll find on the Apple site. If you want a deal, as was mentioned, the refurbished store is a good idea, or find a VAR in your area and see what they've got available used.

Scamming the ADC is generally frowned upon.
