Does iWork contain Word/Powerpoint? I don't think so. Might want to check on that.

If you want a free alternative to Office 2008 for Mac, you can try OpenOffice, but I have never used it so use it at your own risk.

iwork contains the mac equivalent of word and powerpoint (Pages and keynote). They're able to open and save all of the normal Word documents.

I have and use OpenOffice (www: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite) on all of my Windows boxes and on my MacBook Pro. It has all of the MS Office suite functionality and have never had a compatibility issue. Best of all, it's free.

I just finished using Pages and Keynote and they were pretty fun and easy to use. Definately recommend them.
