New iPod, or fix battery? The battery on my iPod finally gave out on me and will no longer hold a charge. I’m actually surprised that it’s held up as long as it has. I wasn’t exactly too gentle with it. Anyway, would it be cheaper to just replace the battery, if that’s even possible, or just get a new one?

Apple does not repair (or change batteries on) ipods. If it is under warranty they will give you a new one. If not, you're SOL. They'll give you 10% off a new one if yours is recently out of warranty.

Either way, with a 2nd gen, definitely upgrade.

Do both. The battery is CHEAP and easy to replace. Then that unit can stay in the glove box of your car so you don't need to always get it out to listen to your ipod. Then get the new one too (touch) for carrying around, daily use etc. AWESOME unit. Way more fun than that old one.

I had the battery in my 2nd gen. iPod die on me about 2 years ago. I replaced it myself; it was super easy and the new unit only cost me like $20. I would def. give it a try and perhaps use it as a back up if you decide to get a new one.

I got ordered mine via a website I can't remember right now, I bet though that if you google for something like 'ipod replacement battery' you'll find a load of places you can order one from.
