Porsche Planning Special 911 to Celebrate 50th
In 1963 Porsche forever changed the sports car world with the debut of the 911 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. 50 years later at that same venue, reports are indicating a special edition 911 is to be revealed to mark the milestone.
Speaking with Motoring, 911 product line director August Achleitner revealed "there is something prepared, something special" for the car's half-century anniversary. As expected, he declined to say exactly what the company has in store, but our friends at worldcarfans are predicting a special edition with unique touches and, possibly retro styling cues. Could this be the Targa mule we've been spotting the past year? Maybe, maybe not.
Achleitner promised a variety of new 911 variants, which is no surprise to us consider the previous generation 997 had 23. “When the market development drops and the sales drop or we come to the end of the life-cycle then it makes sense to bring other varieties."
The 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show will be next September so we still have quite a way to go, expect more news before then.

Hope we see a Targa!
