Drove the 991S at the Masters school in Birmingham

Thanks for the write up. Can you compare the feel of the 991 S to your GT2 (understanding there is at least a 130 HP difference before the GT2 is tuned)? I have a 991 S on order, but have driven my buddy's 2008 GT2 and loved it...even though I thought it was trying to kill me.
Anyway, that is my take on them.

The GT2 is not a good DD, the 991 is a great DD. The GT2 makes the 991 feel slow in comparison, but how often would you be driving them back to back. The handling and connection to the road through steering and suspension is not even close but that is why the 991 is better for a DD. The GT2 takes a lot of physical and mental work and delivers amazing thrill. The 991 can be driven when you are tired and lazy or can deliver many thrills when using sport plus and pushing it hard.
Anyway, that is my take on them.

Nice words..yes - compared to a normal 997.2S the 991 is better..but I doubt in performance there is a big gap to - for example a 997 GTS. The the 991 is less tiring is obvious.
As I own a 997.2 GT3 and GT2..Im imterested in your words here too..." a 991 is slow compared to GT2"...interesting
- I didnt expect anything else. What about the direct comparison 997.2 GT3 and 991? Which offers the best driving thrill? My guess would be the 997.2 GT3 - right?..A GT2 is more a beast...and not always easy to drive---at least at the limit..but thats exactly why I love it.
I admit that its not the best daily driver..but for me always - a 911 had to be a real sportscar...people who wanted "DD Porsches" should have bought Cayenne or Panamera..

Thanks for your opinions..
My DD is an Audi - or sitting in plane..I dont need DD Porches

The GT3 was more thrilling than anything else I drove there. One of the guys in our group, who ownes a 997TTS, was thrilled with the GT3. You could see it in his eyes as he pointed to it and said, "wow I like that car". He was possesed by the devil
. But then another guy in our group who ownes a 997.2S was in love with the 997.2TT ; so what does this mean?I think it means that porsche is smarter than all of us and they realize that there are so many people who want a certain type of 911 sports car and for their own specific needs and reasons. That is why there are so many variants of 911's.
I used to DD my 997.2S and put 28k miles on it in just 2 years. But now I got a GT2 and I DD my CTT and a mercedes. So my preference resembles yours but I would not go so far to say that someone can't DD a 911. I consider myself very fortunate to have the option to have a GT2 to track and drive infrequently.
And I still beleive that if I was to DD a 911 the new 991 is fabulous.

There is a 14 second gap between the 997.2 and the 991 on the ring. That is considerable. There is not a comparo between the 991 and GTS though, so don't know.

Thanks for your info. Yes, there are so many 911 variants..there is something for everybody.
. Im possessed by the devil "two times" - by GT2 and GT3. If someone would put a gun to my head and ask me - which one to choose..I wouldt really know what to answer..maybe 51% for GT3...but even..Yes, even a 997 GT2 can be a daily driver..I know one person who drove his 997 GT2 80,000Km in 3 years, even in winter and snow. Now his GT2RS is his daily driver.
Coming to 991 performance...you shouldnt believe everything that Porsche says..there was a test in Germany on the Nürburgring by an independent tester and it was 6 sec. faster than a 997.2S and 17 sec. slower on a wet track!!. I just have here in front of me a french Porsche magazine (flat 6 its called) - they have measured a difference on a french track of 0,7sec - on the wet however.
Porsche also claimed 7:18 for the GT2RS - and the end it was 7:24..its same with fuel consumption...manufacteres cheat..the current EU legislation is 10 years old..has many loop holes and like this a manufacturer has certain "freedom"--believe me - I know what Im talking about.
Anyway, yes the 991 may be a nice car - bur for now its not for me. I like more the new boxster..lets see. And if I drive a Porsche on the weekend - it must thrill - for the first second.

PS: What have you exactly modified on your GT2? Results? Happy?

obviouly he could do it better..! but then the Mclaren test driver could also do it better..and then VW might come back saying they did the Ring in 1950 also at 7:30..
Come on..I only believe what can be verified by independent sources...
Its like when people try to convince you to go to a club where they promise you the most beautiful girls in the world..better send in someone first to check..

definitely
but obviously Porsche has really pushed the envelope with the 991 this time
Everybody knows about it and even with other tires etc. the 991 would have performed very good ,so it`s nothing to be upset about
I actually hate HvS,..and even though he is a good driver I don`t give a damn about him.
The only good thing is that it is always the same driver doing the lap times so that we have a fixed variable at every test.

Thats all I know.
Now back to the subject ..

Jumping horse,
all my mods are listed in the sig. I am very happy with all of them and would recommend them to anyone. The power increase makes the car even more scarry, which is a good thing....kind of.
The suspension makes it handle and feel like a go-kart.
I understand what you mean about manufacturers and their claims. Having experienced both the 997.2S and the 991S back to back on a race track, I did feel a considerable difference and commend porsche on a job well done. The 991 did not have PDCC or PTV and they disabled the sport buttons so we could not activate them for the purposes of the school.
