991 Carrera S PDK Road Test
Yesterday I spent 3 hours driving the new Carrera S PDK courtesy of my local dealer: Porsche of Edinburgh. During my 3 hour drive the Scottish weather provided both wet and dry driving conditions. The car had Sport Chrono and the Sports Exhaust.
I currently drive a Mercedes E-Class Coupe but have owned a Boxster 2.5, Boxster S and Cayman S and I have driven the previous model 911.
Two words come to mind when describing the car: Amazing and Awesome!
The car is two cars in one, a relaxing 'easy to drive' GT car and at the push of a button an exciting and engaging 'Sports Car'.
Driving the car in Sport Mode with the Sports Exhaust active on a country road was very special, the PDK gear change was fantastically quick and smooth and the engine sound/exhaust truly amazing. The handling (on wet roads) was very predictable, the car feeling very safe and solid. The cars acceleration just has to be experienced!
When driving in normal mode the 'Coasting' feature is activated, as soon as you lift off the gas the clutch is disengaged to save fuel, however as soon as you touch the brake or the gas the coasting feature is de-activated. The Auto Stop/Start feature works very well, just remember to switch it off when making a parking manoeuvre!
I am 'sold' on the car and plan to pay my deposit in January.
I must thank Porsche of Edinburgh for the loan of the car.
In the photograph the car is parked by the side of the Lake of Menteith in the Trossachs.
