2003 996tt Cabriolet Tuning
Hi all,
One of my mates purchased a pristine 03' tt last year from a Porsche dealer after they spent far too much money having to prep it for sale ( new discs all around, radiators etc etc etc). They spent circa £7500 on it and the car is under warranty until next June.
The car is a tiptronic and a daily driver with 44k on the clock and is unmodified. My bud was considering upgrading but is making a new home purchase next year and has decided to keep the ride until 2013. Keeping the warranty is a concern but as it runs out in June he's considering invalidating it. The mod budget is £3,000.00 inclusive of labor.
The car is a lovely ride and bloody powerful but he does have a couple of valid issues:
1) first and foremost the ride is absolutely brutal. It is one of the harshest rides I've ever been in. What are current owners thoughts on the ride and what can be done to not only improve the handling but also soften up the back breaking ride?
2) there's a number of tunes available - what is proven and reliable? What other mods are necessary with a tune? I'd assume intake and exhaust?
3) what are other popular mods for the tt's that won't break the bank?

Not sure why the stock ride is so rough, maybe the dampers are on their way out? Myself and the majority of my friends have upgraded our cars to coilovers, it is a noticeably firmer ride than stock, but a good setup will retain or improve comfort.

the 996TT ride is too harsh, yet not good when it comes to hard handling in corners...just wrong imo
try Bilstein PSS10
compared to the 996TT the 997TT is much more comfortable AND better for handling
concerning tunes..
there are like a billion available for the 996TT
but then again, you gotta draw a line where it would be smarter to just upgrade to the next gen TT
the basic tunes are exhaust, power and suspension
for power there are many possibilities...like simply software or both software and hardware..

We just finished working on a 996TT two weeks ago with Wheels Boutique. Popular mods include filter, exhaust,. IPD plenum, and tune. It is strongly recommended to go with the upgraded Diverter Valves when going with our stage 2 tune. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
