Change in plans ... 997 TT to C2S ?
The lease on my 2009 Turbo is ending in 6 months. I was undecided as to what I would do when the term ended. I do care for the car a great deal. Best Porsche I've had. I've had a handful of 911s since the 70s ... 8, I believe and the 993 C4S I still have.
Each was better than the one previous, but yes ... the cars continued to "evolve" and such dastardly things like power steering and brakes made their entrances as well as power windows. (gasp !) And, more power, too !
Anyway, I tho't about purchasing my 997.1 Turbo since there was not a new 991 Turbo available when my lease ends. But, I know I'd want a new car in a year or so. And, I'd take a bath on trying to trade for a new lease. BTDT.
But, PAG sent me a Lease End Package that says they will wave up to 3 months/$7500 lease payments if I buy/lease a new car and sign a contract by 1/2/12.
So .... I fiddled with the car build deal on the Porsche web site and put together a 2012 991 C2S cab. I figure I could lease it for 24 months ... wait until the new Turbo cab sticks it's head under the tent and then get one of those at lease end.
If I can get a bit of a discount, sign a contract by 1/2/12 ... and get a new 991 S cab by sometime in February/March ... that'd be kewl ! Not sure it will work, tho.
Any tho'ts/comments?
I realize that many here do not particularly care for leasing cars. But, I've found that it works for me. I like to change cars every 2-3 years, I drive only 5-6K per year on each car (I have a truck for winter). But, I do drive the cars to work daily. I just live 8 miles from work ... 3 days a week. And, I can still write of some of the car thru my business, too.

Seems like a good idea there. Drive both the 997.1 and the 991 ( if you haven't) and make the decision then. I don't think you would regret either one. I know a lot of people have reservations because of the 991 price so you should consider that as well.

I also have a Goldwing, Kawa C14 that is chipped and has aftermarket exhaust, yada, yada ... and a ZX14. All are different and I don't feel "steered" when I ride the Wing and drag metallic parts. Being steered may have to do with what's between your ears, not what 'steering' wheel your are attached to.
I guess you folks did not understand the situation.
The 991 S cab (with 400 bhp) is only temporary. I would toss the 997 Turbo for a 991 Turbo if .... IF .... it were available by May 1st, 2012. Alas, it is not.
Therefore (according to you all knowing), I would be moving 'backwards' to the C2S for 24 months. Then moving forward once again.
I do not see 'steering' in this equation. Just driving another iconic 911 for 24 months before getting another version of the Turbo when it is available.

Plus, spending that kind of coin for 24 months is more than I'd like to do. That's why I am considering PFS's offer for a new car until the Turbo breaks cover in 2013ish.

Bagger, Barrister's point (and I agree with it) is that it is doubtful that you would be happy with a C2S compared to your TT. Two years is a LONG time to be wanting more from your car, especially considering the price.
How about leasing a CPO'd TT until a 991TT becomes available. The depreciation on years 3 to 5 is not nearly as bad as years 1 and 2, so it would hopefully be a lower payment while waiting. (just a guess on the payment thing...)

We rarely get to experience 'the limits' of our cars as we drive to work ... even tho I don't drive on the Slab, just back roads ... I still enjoy the feel of the cars I drive. All of them. I understand.
Yes, I remember having a conversation with others asking "what's next after the Turbo?" ... and there was no answer. The Turbo is still the most inspiring Porsche I've driven despite it's distracters. With nearly 500 bhp, the car is a beast. Handling is another deal, however.
But, I am a patient fellow. I drove a '05 Boxster for a year waiting for the 997 C4S to arrive. The Boxster had it's own dynamic that was better than any 911 I've driven. The handling was terrific ! I'm sure the Cayman R is a blast to drive at 8/10ths, too.
Then there are the GT cars. The GT cars look like toys to me with their wild graphics and wings. Altho, I do suppose one could 'opt out' of these. I guess if I were 25 years old and had funds, I'd get a green GT2 ... or maybe an orange one with black graphics. The GT's are not for me.
The Turbo is EZ to drive anywhere and at any speed. Yes, I only have manual shifters. When I'm older, I'll get a Buick. And, I fully expect to have another Turbo as soon as they are available.
But, until then ..... PFS is offering $7500 off and 3 months early return of your leased vehicle. And, you get a new vehicle. Not spending another $40K over 24 months on a 4-5 year old car. New is nearly always better than old IMO.
