Would you prefer me say it ran on Fried Chicken? Or Hummus? Or, Gefilte fish? - that wouldn't work in this case as its about a car for the Chinese market. Maybe you'd prefer I'd say something like "It runs on lead poisoning. like they put in the products that are for US consumers." Or "It ran on Communism, but it blew up- just like USSR!"
