Blakt Out... what do I REALLY want to do?

K guys. So everyone knows that I'm going to do SOMETHING to get to race this coming year.

MiniD will come in very handy on this one, because I assume he knows more than anyone (other than his Dad) on here about the topic. I posted this on Rennlist, but I got as many different answers as there are members. They are all VERY helpful though, many calling me to help me all the way. So cool.

But, heck... it's winter, and I need to make a decision soon. Thought I'd post here and see what you guys come up with. It gets a bit tricky to explain it all... all the options. And I think that you have to have SOME knowledge about my finances to actually help me.

I'm not filthy rich. At all. I don't know what the next year is going to hold for me, but I want to go racing. I would like to find an option that was the equivalent of my car, but some of the best options are essentially more like my car plus $20k, or even $40k. I can do this, but it becomes a stretch. I don't finance any toys, but if any more financial trouble came my way, I'd have to prepare for possibly borrowing against something. I hope that's enough honesty here for you guys to be able to help me and know where I'm coming from.

Before I go into the options, you should also know where I am with the car. The car was just written up by Excellence Magazine (coming out in the next issue... I have it but can't share it) as defeating handily a 997TT with 680HP and a brilliant little Cayman S by Sharky. Then, when compared with a 997 GT3 with some mods, the jury was split. I don't get that. My car was quicker, faster, and handled better. Anyway...

So you know I just sold my supercharger and some other parts (many to ATL, but those were just sitting in the garage). I was running a VIR just before Thanksgiving and blew up my engine. I am almost positive that it was not due to the blower. There were a number of signs pointing another way. Anyway...

In the moment when this happened, I immediately jumped to the decision that I would sell everything off my car that didn't need to be there for it to be turned into a Synergy Competition build car. So I posted some stuff for sale off of it, and the supercharger went immediately. A new engine will be installed in the coming weeks. So, no matter what I do, I have to spend that cash.

So here's a total list of things that I have on my car or that I have FOR my car but not ON my car.

It's a 2006 997S. Stickered at $94k when I bought it new. Sport Chrono, 2 tone full leather interior. 24k miles.

As it sits now:
18" HRE C93s, custom matte black with a red pinstripe
Toyo R888s (305 and 245)
Moton/GMG coilovers-Club Sports
GMG adjustable sway bars
GMG dogbones
GT3 adjustable control arms
Monoball suspension mounts

Stock brakes (sold the Brembos in the same manner as the SC)
Stainless brake lines
Synergy Racing exhaust
Quaife Limited Slip diff
Lightweight Flywheel
Racing clutch
GMG carbon rear GT3 bumper
Rear crash bumper converted to Chromolly tubing
GMG GT3RS wing
Carbon mirrors
GMG carbon nose vent
OEM GT3 front bumper
Cargraphic bumper screens
Cobra Carbon Suzuka Technology seats

GMG GT harness/roll bar - matte black
OMP 6 point harnesses
Crazy stereo
full interior. Some CF parts.

Other items that I have that aren't on the car but that are of use to this decision:
2 sets of Dunlop racing slicks
2 spare chin spoilers

Now, on to the options. The first one is the first one that popped in my head when my motor... umm... popped. Building Synergy Competition car #15. By the way, I love those guys and respect what they accomplish so much. So there's that as a decision factor in this too. To aid in seeing my situation, I've made everything in the above list RED that can be used in this option, taking my car from where it is (about 60% of the way to being a build car) to being a full race build car.

To take my car the rest of the way to being a build car (racing brakes, stripping the whole car down to the tub, taking out everything unneeded to go fast, putting it back together as cleanly and lightly as possible, welding in a full cage and painting the interior black, fuel cell, fuel shutoff, fire system, etc... that's all going to add another $30k or so. I'll need to buy another set of wheels too, so let's just say this option is $35k PLUS my car.

But, just for having a visual aid, this is what I'll essentially have... (what I have!)

Option 2:
In this train of thought, I keep my car and buy a much cheaper race car to start with. This really can get me excited too, 'cause I'll still have my car to drive on the street. I'd probably put the PASM back in, as well as the stock seats and stuff. I'd sell the GMG roll bar so I could put my son's car seat in the back. It'd be fun. Plus, I'd have a car that I didn't worry about at the track so much. However, when I AM at the track, I'd be in a much slower car. Will that suck? I don't know. Here's an example of the best car I can find for this choice. I already have someone checking on it for me.

1993 Carrera RS America. I'll end up having $35k to $40k in it. However, since I'll get to sell some of my parts, this will be about $10k less than building my car. I would run this in G or H stock.

Then, there's the option of selling my car and buying a race car. I can get just about anything if I try to tap out the same amount as the other options. But if I did this option, part of the appeal is that I can save some cash.

I good option in this is a 993RS clone that will run in I stock. This is going to be in the $65k range with all the parts and spares that I would need. I could also buy a really nice Koni Challenge car for about the same price (even less, depending on condition).

Here's the 993. It's gorgeous, and a total package.

I'll throw up a pic of a Koni car to run in GTB, but don't have one right now.

Each option, as I type, is the one I want to do at that moment.

Thoughts? By the way, thanks for reading all this.

Jared

Hey Blakt Out, I just sent you a PM about another car you may want to check out.

You can't really go wrong with either one of the cars you mentioned above though.

Thought about buying a high mileage 996 GT3 and smacking some mods on it?

Here's an old Koni car that actually ran in GTB a couple years ago at Barber.

And your picture of our 993 makes it look hideous.

It would run in J stock, and here, there's not a lot of people running in that. It would be up against 996TTs too, but I'd much rather have the GT3. If I modded it beyond 'stock' class, it would be put into 'prepared' in K against a field of like 4 cars per race here. If I modded beyond that, it would be in GTA against Cup Cars...
