6Speed Playing Catch Up? Or Did They Get an Order to Cease and Desist?

Did anyone else notice the forum header change over at 6Speed.com? Pretty funny. For some reason, they replaced the Porsche pics with Lambos! Now, I love Lambos as much as the next guy. But it just looks and feels out of place. It also pales in comparison to the masterpiece that DJ and his crew put up for us here at the TEAM. Their explanation is curious as well:

"Due to a friendly request from a car manufacturer, we have to redesign some of the header graphics, not all forums are affected. In the short meantime, as you can see, we are sharing the Lamborghini theme across the affected forums. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Did Porsche tell them to stop using pictures of their cars in the header?? I am not sure they have a legal basis to do so. Unless the site some how made it look like Porsche endorsed the forum, use of those images should fall under fair use.

Does anyone know any more details on this? Just curious.

Too funny. I'm sure Porsche nailed them for use of vehicle images. You just cannot do that sort of thing. Some learn the hard way.

Porsche is pretty hardcore about banning fans from using Porsche materials. Wallpaper websites have to take down Porsche images, Porsche prohibits the use of Porsche in racing flicks, Porsche does not participate in Gran Turismo the ultimate racing game, etc. They aren't very social people.

Porsche seems pretty active in this. There is a small parts supplier here that was called porsch-a-part or something and they made the guy change it

Porsche means business when it comes to names and pics

This is due to licensing. Porsche is featured in dozens of racing games and simulators. EA devoted an entire Need for Speed release exclusively to Porsche. The brand is also featured in more popular current titles like Project Gotham Racing and Forza. If I were a car manufacturer, I frankly would not want my product anywhere near the new Gran Turismo game.

Why exactly? That game reaches so many future car enthusiasts and open peoples eyes to other marques. Look at RUF with the game and the exposure it gave them..
