997GT2 700hp VTG vs 996 turbo 800hp K24/20g

Checkout the VTG response, looks like 997 gets the drop but it didn't, result was the same every time the 997 put 20 m on the 996, once the 996 spooled it kept up fairly well and was about 30m behind by 190mph.

Interesting race, too bad the video doesn't really show anything. Any more footage, maybe some from the 996?

For what I am trying to illustrate it shows all you need to know really - both cars hit th gas at the same time, the VTG car leaps ahead ridiculously in comparison to a normal turbo car..... Next time you hear people describing their conventional turbo packages in terms of "zero lag", "instant spool", "full boost at 3500rpm" - just think of this vid

Brake boosting would've helped the 20G car

I think the 3.9 displacement helps with the VGT response? If the 996 TT had the similar displacement and smaller turbos such as K24/18g. It would have response much better against your car.

Not sure brake boosting at 60mph would work ?

There was a K16 hybrid 996 there also and the results were the same, the VTG torque hits very fast and hard. Agreed the extra displacement must help but the compressor sides are BIG so these VTGs are not as responsive as those on say a stock 997 turbo - would be interesting to see this test with a stock 997 turbo vs a tuned 996tt

That is a nice start but not really what I am trying to illustrate, it is the coming off and on the throttle once on the move where the VTG has this big advantage

congrats on a fast car but there are so many variables here that you're essentially comparing apples to oranges. an 800hp 996tt will have a decent amount of lag - that's a huge turbo.

I wasn't looking for your "congrats" but thanks anyway

It is apples to apples in that my VTG car is slightly faster than the 800hp normal turbo car even taking the response out of the equation (my 720 horses are from an engine dyno are slightly better fed) so it is the lag issue I am focusing on, (my VTGs also have a huge compressor side) just how much better the VTG system is like for like (with the caveats about 3.9 mentioned before)

weight difference & the extra .3 liters make it apples to oranges imo
