Post [INFO] How to remove back seats and save weight

Upon recommendation from my OPC I removed the back seats so that my new baby seat can fit more snugly. Plus as I never use the back seats the weight saving is worth it alone (as per the new GTS).

Download the PDF of the official Porsche instructions on how to do this.

You will need following two screwdriver bits:

  • T25
  • T40 (the side screws are done up really tight so you may need some kind of wrench/leverage to undo)

The results: 9.2 kg saving - those seats are MUCH heavier than they look!

Doesn't include removal of Bose or seat locking brackets

Any questions then please let me know

Does this work on the 996TT's as well?

Don't know sorry - the instructions at the end say these are for 997's from MY2005.

996 is the same thing, very very easy, the bottom comes right up as its only secured by velcro and the up parts of the rear seats are fastened in by a few bolts, its extremely easy and straight forward.

I just don't see the purpose of fitting those seats in the first place, thats the first thing I removed when I got my car.

I will put them back in when my kid(s) get older. No other reason it have them otherwise that I can see as they are way too small for adults to fit comfortably...
