VIDEO: 997 GT2 vs 997.2 Turbo
#13
i can't figure it out either.
its the same GT2 we've used in other such admittedly informal and unscientific "tests", and its definitely pretty strong
its faster than a lightly tuned 6.2 Murcielago, which itself is faster than a stock 997.1 Turbo, which is faster than a 997.1 GT3 (all cars and drivers that have been in these videos before).
its also no noticeably slower or faster than 2 other 997 GT2's that we regularly go driving with, so... there doesn't seem to be a problem with the car.
it could be driver error, but as you can see we did this at least 4-5 times, which would tend to eliminate the driver flubbing it.
i believe its the combination of the GT2 being in the wrong gear / starting at the wrong speed. the turbo's wouldn't have spooled, and that is enough to give the PDK an advantage. also, terminal speeds were maybe 240kmh, and if magazine tests are to be believed, the PDK's 0-200kmh is about the same as the GT2's, whereas the GT2 slays the Turbo from 0-300. supposedly.
net:
1) need to start at slightly higher speed to get the turbo's spooling quicker; and
2) need a longer road
and i'm still working on the LP560 to jump in!

PDK is definitely very impressive. IMO, the car is just as powerful as the GT2, however the GT2 has a weight advantage. But, the PDK is going to shift much quicker. it should be a very close race provided the driver in the GT2 is hitting his shifts.

interesting thing is... since the HKS GTR basically ran neck and neck with the PDK Turbo until very high speeds, it suggests that the Nissan would have beat the GT2 during the same kind of test...
of course we're talking tuned vs stock, but still the GTR was just running bolt ons...
