Looking forward to tis guys! Very interested in how the direct injection can benefit higher power setups. Also, seeing what you can get that PDK to hold has me on the edge of my seat. Good Luck!

Sorry for the delays in updates, we have been very busy putting together our latest offerings and testing this new beast! Thanks for the kind words and the excitement around the project. Here are a few updates:

Here are a few photos from the original ECU read-out with our proprietary EVOMSit flashing tools

Here is her first mod! Smoked corners... Thanks Sharky!

On Todd's trip back from Sharkwerks, he stopped by our performance partner and So. Cal distributor RSS / Stuttgart Performance. For those who live in the LA / Orange County area, and have not visited their facility, these guys are the real deal. Mike and Brian are very knowledgeable and great people to work with. Geoff, the owner is a true Porschephile and has one of the nicest and rarest Porsche collections I have seen. It is worth the drive to go and check them out especally for any performance upgrades.

From there, it was another 400 miles to Phoenix. Here is a cool shot on the way back of the odometer at 997 miles...

The odometer at 1000 miles...

Todd's impressions after 1000 miles:
"So now that there is just over 1000 miles on the car, I can feel that the engine and transmission are much more alive now than when I first took delivery with 12 miles on it. The car is definitely faster and the shifting is more crisp. I will be testing the car on our AWD dyno tomorrow to see what the baseline is before testing the software that I have been working on. More tomorrow."

1/29/10:

Dyno Testing Complete
I spent some time on the dyno today with the new turbo. Since this is the first time dyno testing the new platform, I spent a solid 4 hours data logging AFR, intake temps, water/oil temps, boost pressure, EGT's, etc to see how all of these variables affect the power. The car is pretty consistent in terms of power delivery but is still very temperature dependent. After about 35 dyno pulls in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, I was able to decipher the data and get the car to make very consistent repeatable power. The highest power was ~490 AWHP and ~490 AWTQ. The average power was in the 480 Range. There was very little difference in power with or without sport mode. Overall I am VERY impressed with the power and I think that Porsche has under rated this one.

For comparison, listed below are some other stock power figures from our same AWD dyno:

997.1 TT puts down ~438 AWHP and ~431 AWTQ to the wheels
997 GT2 puts down ~476 AWHP and ~466 AWTQ to the wheels
997.2 TT DFI puts down ~490 AWHP and ~490 AWTQ to the wheels

The next few days were spent on the dyno and on our OBDII port flashing.

Power: We have been tuning non stop and we are getting acquainted with the ECU and its functions. So far, we have the power up about +35 AWHP and +45 AWTQ on 91 octane fuel We will be finalizing the software tomorrow on the dyno and begin our street / track testing. We will post dyno plots tomorrow of the before and after. Once we get this stage 1 file tested, the car will be fitted with our ClubSport headers and sport exhaust with HJS catalysts. We also have a few more goodies that are nearly completed as well which will be added to the car for testing.

OBDII Port Flashing: We have been working on a secure way to transfer the performance file through the OBD port for a while now. Today we tested our Beta OBDII flashing tool on the DFI turbo and it worked great. We still have some work to do to make sure that the data transfer is secure, safe and bug free. We will not release it until it is perfect. Our current method of bench flashing is still the most secure way to upload the performance file but new methods are right around the corner!

2/3/10:
Dyno Testing - Stage 1 EVOMSit Software Completed
After some more fine tuning today, we are ready to begin real world testing of our stage 1 software tune. With software alone, we increased the power output by 42 AWHP and 47 AWTQ on our 2010 PDK car with 100% 91 octane fuel. We will begin street testing this week followed by track testing this weekend at Firebird main. We will be testing some other hardware components in conjunction with the software and will update the progress as we move forward. This weekend will be the first of many track events to test the limits of the new DFI engine. More details to follow.

Here is a baseline dyno vs our EVOMSit stage 1 software - tested on 91 octane fuel.

More to come...

Track time!!!

Since we were going to be driving the car on the track last weekend, we thought a set of track pipes were in order. To hear the car on the track, the muffler had to go for now. Today we removed the intercoolers, rear bumper and exhaust system. Tomorrow we will fabricate a set of track pipes with a pair of HJS 200 cell motorsport catalysts. This is something that we will be offering for those who are wanting the most sound out of their 997TT DFI. We will post more photos after the fabrication is complete. Here are some photos of the new "log style" exhaust headers and OEM muffler / Catalyst system:

Then it was on to tuning the car for the high-flow cats and muffler bypass pipes.

After a fun idea and a night of stickering (this is why you shouldn't buy me a sticker machine)... we have project KOP KAR!

Time to load up for the track... hooray 4am!

At Firebird Main...

Shameless plug of my 2010 GTI in the background...

Track update from Todd:

"Track Update
After a good pounding, the car ran very well. I did have slightly high oil temperatures for a few laps however I was on the bumper of another turbo had an impact on cooling. I do think if the PDK is going to be track driven, a different cooling system for the transmission is in order. We will be developing this in the near future.

During all of the track sessions today, I had a data acquisition system hooked up to the car to log over 25 different engine functions. From a brief look, everything looks as it should and the car did not miss a beat all day long. The power was always constant and there was never a time where the power got flat. This is the same thing that I noticed on the dyno as well. No matter how hard I pushed it on the dyno, or on the track, the heat did not have much of an impact on power. The GT2 style intake manifold combined with some much improved intercoolers, direct injection and a free flowing exhaust all help to maintain constant power. I will be combing through the logs to see if there are any more improvements that can be made to the software at this stage.

PDK on the track. I am still on the fence. I have never driven anything but a manual on the track. The first session I was VERY disconnected. After the second and third session I was more familiar with it and the quirks. There is some work that I need to do with the downshifting. The up shifts are perfect but the down shift delay is bad. If the downshifts were as crisp and as fast as the up shifts, it would be a winner. More work to do on that. I will try it for a few more sessions today and see if I can better at predicting what it will be doing on the downshifts.

Suspension: HA! Forget about it. That will be one of our next mods. I am NOT a fan of the PASM - never was. In sport mode the car has too much bump and skips too much. I don’t think having the car in sport mode helps much except for making the car ride rough. In reality, with a properly setup suspension, the car can handle street driving as well if not better than stock. On the track, it will also handle 100% better and I think be a more well balanced all around system. More developments on this very shortly.

There is a definite improvement with the dynamic engine mounts and TQ vectoring. The car turns in well but when she gets loose, she gets loose. I think there is a slightly longer threshold to push the car with this technology which makes the car feel more stable in hard cornering.

We will have some track videos posted later this weekend. Stay Tuned

Video time. Hunting down the blue smurf
Great day of testing and racing the 997.2TT. See my comments above. Here is a quick video of the EVOMS 997.2TT on the hunt for the Vivid racing 800 HP 997TT. It was all in good fun and Dan was a good sport afterwards. It was rumored that I pulled off the track to wait for the smurf 997TT, and I will say that that rumor was 100% CORRECT! I needed a little more excitement so rattling the cage of a fellow Porsche owner with a car that is much more powerful with proper suspension was what I was looking for. Here is the first video that Parvin put together last night. Enjoy!"

That brings us up to date. Currently we are working on the following:

- Full Exhaust System including Clubsport Headers
- PDK Software Upgrades
- Intercooler Upgrades
- Diverter Valve Upgrades
- Suspension Upgrades
- Turbo Upgrades
- Safety Equipment

I guess I should have started with the "things we are not going to touch" list... it would have been shorter!

Great looking graph and amazing power on 91 already. This car has good potential and I look forward in reading more on the further build. The car already has more power than the older generations and it was nice to see the comparo with baseline Todd. I am not a huge PDK fan and thanks for sharing your information from the track.
