I have heard that they have gone to a more plush giving tire on the GT3's for 2010 to compensate for the solid subframe mounts, maybe they did this on the turbo as well?

I think it has as much to do with who gives them the best tire deal than anything else.

I read that the new reformulated Bridgestones are almost as sticky as the Michelin Sport Cups in either Excellence or GT Purely Porsche

Baron is correct. Excellence is a marketing vehicle for Porsche and other brands. It's a great magazine, but I would like to see a balanced review of a new model once in awhile. They always overdo the reviews - the recent article,"2010 Turbo: Porsche Answers its Critics", is one of the worst pieces of 'fluff' journalism that I have ever read. And the new 998 Turbo will get similar rave reviews.
