997 Turbo MKII Engine
So what's the final answer?
Is it the wet sumper A91 or the racing engine M64?
Are they trying to sneak this one past us hoping that no one will notice and move the M64 to the GT cars only?

It's the shitty A91 wet sump motor.
Already confirmed it with some of the factory reps.
It's an interesting move for Porsche when you think about it. It's a significant cost cutting measure, but most of the target customers for a Turbo wouldn't know, appreciate, or experience any difference anyway. As one of the reps told me, the hardcore enthusiasts who care about dry vs. wet sump and actually track their cars are more likely to buy a GT3/GT3RS or GT2 anyway, so for them we retained the GT1 block.
I guess when you think about it from that perspective, it makes sense. Turbo is more of a cruiser and GT, and if you want to track it, get a GT2/3.

Or maybe looking into adding rear seats to the GT2/3...

I bought my car for exactly this reason. I kinda liked the idea of the PDK with the turbo instead of the tip, but once it became apparent that PDK was also going to mean no CT1 block, I bought my car. I wonder what the total sales in 09 are, as with the recession, the number of cars may be low.

I am still in disbelief that the Turbo is now relegated to use the same wet sumpers used in regular 911's that Porsche do not have enough confidence to race with.
That's the bottom line isn't it? The A91 is not going to be raced, Alois Ruf is not crazy about it, and the Turbo is dead.
What's going to happen to the 997 MKII GT2? A91 also?

they are claiming the motor to be quite capable, but there are so many doubts floating around right now, that it will have to prove it. My porsche mechanic friend thinks the motor will be really good, but not sure if he is blinded by porsche hype.

I think the development in racing is probably the main reason. But as time goes they may transition over to the other motor if it can prove itself. I still have my doubts and no one that is pro-the new motor can say that it is stout yet.

I have heard the same thing. Where as the 962 GT1 motor was making 750bhp at 3 liter displacement in a 24 hour capable motor. A little difference in power potential.
