I'm not usually a very big fan of doing such mods, but this looks fantastic. Nicely done.

I have talked to many Porsche experts and no one is quite sure how to perform the conversion on a 996. After 4 hours I was so stumped. I was able to splice the 996 TT rear wire harness and connect it following the 997.2 LED wiring diagram supplied by Loren. If you ever need any DIY help or wiring diagrams Loren is a great source of information for anything Porsche related.

At first I was surpised it was so easy.

Everything worked
the turn signal
backup light
rear fog light
night light
brake signal

I was a happy camper. What I realized later is that when the night light turns on, it automaticallly turns on the rear turn signals at the same time. I have a feeling it has to be the led tail light module doing it, as they are only 6 wires coming from the wire harness into the led tail light.

Not sure how to proceed at this point. I was thinking maybe inside the led module of the tail light there might be two grounds for the turn signal. I only know of one company that has performed the conversion but they are in France and so far have not replied back to any of my emails asking for help. I hope to have a solution ready by the end of next week.

very nice I went a little more expensive route and got the euro bumper, I am going to get the led 3rd brakelight next, I just need to get the part #

stock 997.1 lights to LEDs

Can the standard tail lights on the 997.1 be converted to the LED lights of the 997.2? Suncoast has them at 779$ and they would look very cool on my 997.1 TT. If anyone has done this conversion please let me know and post if there is any expense besides the lights and the installation.

thanks much.

So far all the people who've done it and posted about it have had to cut and bondo the bumper. I've been holding out for a way to replace the 997.1 turbo rear bumper cover with a 997.2 turbo rear bumper cover, but I'm not sure of compatibility issues.

spoke to suncoast and porsche yesterday and they said that the 997.1 TT has some LED lights in the front bumper so it is set up for LED but that it may not have the control units you need to properly operate the new LED tail lights. Thus you may need the control units as well as the lights. Another issues is the rear bumper which ideally should be the 997.2 TT rear bumper. Although the lights are only 779$ at Suncoast it sounds as if the rest of the conversion is pricey and time consuming.
