Post Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be Possibly Branded “Monte Carlo”

Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be Possibly Branded “Monte Carlo”
by John Coyle

Even before the latest mid-engine masterpiece from Maranello debuted, Ferrari devotees have been wondering when we’ll see a 458 Scuderia. But if the rumors circulating are true, it may never come. Well, not quite. According to Dutch journalist Sjoerd van Stokkum—who was recently at Ferrari headquarters—the next weapons-grade track toy will wear a “Monte Carlo” moniker, and get bumped to 620hp.

The Scuderia badge goes back to the earliest days of Ferrari’s heritage, when he was still preparing cars for Alfa Romeo’s racing team. In Italian, “Scuderia” literally means “stable,” which seems appropriate for a group of special horses. So it’s anyone’s guess as to why the notoriously Italy-centric company would choose to brand one of its creations with the name of a city outside the Boot’s borders. Remember: “Daytona” was never an officially sanctioned name for the 365 GTB/4.

One thing we can count on? Less weight, more aggressive suspension settings, and of course, a higher list price. Specifics will have to wait until closer to the 2013 debut.

Monte Carlo, snickersnickersnicker. Damn, the 16M version, maybe the Cavalier? No wait, Nova? El Camino?

Why not Imola? Silly Italians.

seems like it was only yesterday that the Italia was introduced but soon, we'll see a lightweight version of it. hopefully the monte carlo moniker is just speculations and not official.

I love how Ferrari tried so hard to say we wouldn't see this model coming when the italia debuted.

Can't wait to see what they come up with.

The Scuderia version was already confirmed a long time ago. And Monte Carlo is doubtful..Even if there is a F1 race there, the name sounds more like Luxury and traffic jams than hardcore/lightweight machinery.

Maybe it'll be Montecarlo like the old Lancia. But I hope not. My votes is for Scuderia or CS. Doesn't matter what it's called though, it's gonna be FAST!
