Test drove the 458

Hello,

Just had the 458 test drive for a couple of hours, seems very PS3 like as apposed to actual driving, so easy to drive and had done around 250ish km/h on the highway.

It didn't frighten me because the gearbox is smooth shifting it feels very effortless, the best way to put it is like playing a playstation game in real-life.

I dont think I want one this time in life, feel its too early. Though, my uncle is getting to order his as he likes the car more than the 599, reason is because the gearbox shifting is comfortable.

This is the 3 layer Giallo with Blu Scuro interior and giallo stitch with daytona seats.

Conclusion: I was expecting more, the performance didn't amaze me and I wasn't actually extremely excited, very normal reaction. It didn't feel much fast compared to the other cars I've driven.

You know when you expect something and it didn't surpass that. I've always liked Ferrari, though it would surpass my expectations but it didn't blow me away, It didn't feel very special at all, you dont feel the bespoke or tailor made factor when you enter it.

Pro's: Easy to drive, very comfortable gearbox shifting.
Con's: Price and options, the front bumper doesn't look too aggressive, hate the side mirrors I think it spoils the look as they are large.

I think the price doesn't suite the car, the one I drove cost $309,000; if it costs 50,000 less I think thats a more appropriate price for the look. They are producing too many of them and since its a small country, I don't rationalise paying that amount and seeing 2-3 on a daily basis or park besides me at the traffic light.

You can drive it on a daily basis, has rear view camera and front and rear parking sensors plus bluetooth.

I am really pissed off when I drove it, it doesn't feel like a sense of occasion or an event when you drive it; very very normal car.

When you look at it its nice and all, but a car at this caliber and pricing should instantaneously wow you.

Honest review Mo! I see what you mean though, it's a tame prancing horse. The 458 sounds like the kind of car you could give to an inexperienced driver and not think twice about. I'd wait out for the Scud in 2013.

I dont want a scuderia its too inflated for what you get, it would be around $400,000. I asked the salesman, he told me they wont release the Scuderia version because they have all carbon fiber options, sport seats and other racing equipment out for the 458.

If I would get a 458, it just for the sake of just having one and for the sound. I mean the drive is sensational its good but it didn't reach the expectations you have before you sit in it.

For 300,000 dollars you've got to have that bespoke feel, sense of occasion. Cars like a Zonda, Spyker have. I dont know maybe because the car is so refined, easy to use and not feel to mechanical or my mind is playing with me.

After this test drive I dont feel too addicted or connected with the idea of getting one, more like thank god I didn't place an order in the first place.

To those who are toying with the idea of getting one, do get one by all means. It's just that I've been in many cars and when I got in to it, I didn't feel to excited it didn't surpass my expectations.

I hope you like my review, I am sure its different to the other reviews out there as I am just speaking my mind and being totally honest about it. It would be certainly nice to see in my garage, I know I wont drive it as much and its just bad to see $300,000 dollars worth of metal collecting dust.

I agree with you Mo.

For me - ill take my 300k and buy a 16M in a SICK color combo and have a few bucks left for a vacation or two

I would'nt but the plus side the 16M has the kick in the back feel of actually shifting, the 458 is like driving in tiptronic on Granturismo 5, no shift feel.

Thats not the only plus - its a spider - and to me (big fan of verts) it doesnt get any cooler than a 16M in the drop top world....

Couldn't agree more with your post.
I will say though that the 458 is a very fun car to drive, when I was a passenger in one and when I got to drive my buddy's, I felt like I had the most fun in a while. I love how quickly and accurate the shifts are, one of the best feelings I had with it. I loved how the interior is welcoming and that it is a comfortable ride. But this all comes from individual personalities, my review is totally opposite than others, but that is what makes this car unique in my mind- it's not for everyone.

Good review, Mo!!!

I have not been in a 458. Does a 430 Scud feel more special when you enter?
