It's my understanding that the laser diffusers only work correctly if they are line of sight, ie, not hidden behind a bumper etc?

It is true only if it is hidden without a "view", meaning completely blocked off. We have tested the stealth installs compared to exterior mounts and there is no difference in signal blockage.

Can you show pics of how yours are installed? Did you cut the mesh and install there?

Mine are currently installed in view (under the wings in the front and over the license plate in back)...but look pretty good. However if there's a way to do it more "stealthy" I'm very interested.

No cutting involved, just proper anchoring of the brackets with the right screws and nuts. We don't have any photos of the rear shifter install as our techs were too busy to pick up the camera for it. Many companies do not remove the front and rear bumper for the shifters due to fear of removing these parts. So they typically install it in very visible areas. However, you can see where the fronts are located:
