Italian companies with an image to defend are masters at this little game.
If Ferrari or Ducati can have the FIA (or FIM) change the rules of F1 (or WSBK) just for them, it sure as hell isn't tough to control what cars go out for the press.
It's not about being truthful, for Ferrari it's about being on top and whilst I agree with Chris' opinion that it's BS all throughout, I disagree that it hurts Ferrari on the long term or that it's cost prohibitive.
unrelated, how does Chris afford a 612/575 on a freelance writer's salary?

I really enjoyed reading this article, from the articles i have read recently and from various tv shows, Ferrari seems to have the view that when journalists review their cars, that they are doing them a favor by allowing them to review the car. I don't think this article should make anyone want a Ferrari less, but i think it should make people think twice before buying a prancing horse based on what they read. It's a shame really, brands like Ferrari should be able to separate themselves from this environment of oneupmanship that seems to have developed in recent years, and it's not like people like Chris Harris won't be able to find a way to get their hands on the latest model from other sources, so why bother with these antics? What i would love to see now would be a back to back test of a Ferrari supplied 458 and a customer car.

Dude he contributes to a lot of mag's as well as races. He's got all sorts of income coming in- as he should. He deserves good $$ for what HE does.

Oh don't get me wrong, he's definitely a top contributor and deserves his success. Just didn't expect him to be that big.

I would really love to get a complete story. Did Harris just get denied big time from the factory over something? Or is he really tired of the BS? Because this could really affect his job in a negative way.

I hate it when manufacturers do this kind of thing. I never really like Ferrari too much anyway.
When the Nissan GT-R came out, there was a similar situation. An owner dynoed his car and found it had about 450hp at the flywheel. A journalist dynoed a press car, and he got a reading of 530hp at the flywheel. Obviously Nissan tunes their cars as well. Nissan's response to this was that since the GT-R engines are hand built, power output varies.

Ferrari is shit and they sell overpriced everything with stupid prancing horse logos to people who have nothing else going on in their lives and want to feel like they're a part of something classy when really they're just bottom of the barrel targets for advertisers but it's okay as no one I know under the age of 30 thinks very highly of Ferrari at all. Their time has passed.
