Was thinking of taking the car out and stretching its legs, sadly it needed a new shoe...
Was not comfortable fixing the tire so I went for a change, am I over reacting? I do track it occasionally

Not an over reaction at all, especially since you track the car occasionally. That repair would be the weakest link of the tire, and your odds of the repair failing would increase significantly with the loads of a spirited track session.

I'm with Gobbles on this one. I'd never ever push a tire that had been repaired. It's definitely a point of failure in the future so it's better to have it replaced now than have the tire fail at high speed on the road or at the track and put you in a dangerous situation.
