Ferrari Recalling More Than 1,000 Supercars After Reports of Fire

Ferrari is recalling more than 1,000 of its 458 Italia supercars after reports of fires.

Following reports of fires in locations from Paris to China, Ferrari has determined that the problem is caused by an adhesive used in the wheel-arch assemblies, Reuters reported.

When overheated, the adhesive can melt and ignite, Ferrari said. Now the company, owned by Italian automaker Fiat, is asking the owners of the cars to bring them in to have the glue replaced with mechanical fasteners.

All the cars were made before July 2010. The owners whose vehicles were damaged by fire will receive a new model.

Updated, it appears that the air outlet in the wheel arch got a new fixture for the breather hose.

It looks like the breather hose is now taking the fumes out of the engine compartment which previously may not have been the case. So the accident cause may be that the hose ended too close to the engine and fuel fumes have ignited in the engine compartment. The fire then went out the vent grill into the wheel arches. Funny thing is the grill in the first picture is metal and the two following pics show a plastic part."
