Peter once again congrats, funny how everyone asks to compare this to a 599 you really cant one is a sports car and one is a GT car, on is a front engine 12 and the other a mid engine 8 they are not in the same chapter in the book of cars different uses.
In regards to this being better then the Scud I am a believer as the technology is far superior and alot of people inculding the automotive journals. However the 458 is once again not the same car that a Scud, Strad or 16m is, those are stripped down versions of other street cars that are capable of being driven to the track and raced. The 458 would be more in line to compare to the 430 but then again going back to the first point is is way beyond that and if as they state beyond the level of the Scud.

In my honest opinion, unless you're able to get the 458 at list right now, I'd recommend you to try out the Scud first and then maybe after 6 month to year come back to the 458. You'll not only be able to avoid the ridiculous premium that's being asked by the dealers on the 458 right now, you'll also get to appreciate the progress of the technology advancement by Ferrari through these two generations.
