YouTube - The Ferrari 458 Italia Launch
The Ferrari 458 Italia is a great feat of mechanical and technical engineering, so much so that Ferrari have gifted it the name of its home country. This video navigates through how Shell’s research, development and innovation have optimised the performance figures of the 458 Italia. The Direct Fuel Injection, 4.5 litre V8 produces 570hp at 9,000rpm, with a total power output of 127hp/litre, a fuel consumption figure of 13.31/100km and CO2 emissions of 307 g/km.
The transfer of technology from Ferrari’s Formula One department to its ‘Gestione Industriale’ – the road car division – is a direct parallel to Shell’s efforts in motorsport.
Formula One provides Shell with an extreme test bed on which to test its fuels and lubricants, allowing Shell scientists to take the learnings and incorporate them into the products for the road.
Having worked with Ferrari on the development of the Formula One engines, Shell was best placed to aid the development of the 458 Italia’s power unit to ensure that optimum performance was achieved.
This significant collaboration has once again put Ferrari ahead of its competitors and has proved that the partnership with Shell is not only about winning Formula One World Championships, but also about delivering one of the most integrated technical partnerships in the performance road car market.
