Supercar Track Battle: Audi R8 V10 vs McLaren 570S
The Audi R8’s dominance of the supercar market continues almost unchallenged. However, the engineering team at McLaren has started making road cars again, and the 570S looks to be the R8’s biggest rival yet.
The guys from Casrs.co.za took both supercars and headed off to Killarney race course for evaluation. In the first tests, they check out the road manners. And in this instance, the Audi has a bit of an edge. German refinement is at its best, and the Audi is a very luxurious place to be. The McLaren, on the other hand, is a bit more focused on speed, and you can tell. The fit and finish is high quality, but the Audi edges it out with tech and quietness.
On track though, things start to look a bit different for the R8. The V10’s power advantage is off-set by heavier weight. In a 0-60 sprint, the 570S has a 0.1 second lead, but out on the race course, the gap opens up even further. Both cars lapped the 3.2 km length circuit from a standing start. Here, the Audi’s extra weight and tires were the weakness in its armor. The McLaren was 2.4 seconds faster. So ultimately, if the decision came down to it, would you rather have a nicer road car, or a more focused track machine?
