The Petersen Breakfast Club Cruise-In GREAT SCOTT! Edition
The Petersen Auto Museum recently acquired a generous gift from Universal Studios: one newly restored hero car from the first Back to the Future movie. Following the unveiling of the car, we invited some of the folks from the local DeLorean owners club to our regularly scheduled Breakfast Cruise-in. As a result, this week’s Breakfast Club had the mixture of Doc Brown’s favorite ride, other imports, weekend warriors, gullwingers, and even some cars that look like they came right off the set of Mad Max.
The museum even brought out a rare, one of three, 24-karat gold DeLorean from the vault. Interestingly enough, this gold DeLorean actually came off the factory line this way, a result of American Express collaborating with John DeLorean for the debut of the American Express Gold Card in the 1980s. Priced at $85,000, only three of them were ever sold.
The gold DeLorean sitting in the Petersen Museum originally belonged to a Texas banker who bought the car and enclosed it in a glass case at the center of his bank. Since it came off the factory line, the car has never seen a drop of liquid in the gas tank or the engine. It has never been started, and the odometer sits at just about six miles, which were earned purely from pushing.
Check out the gallery below for a glimpse of the car, and also some highlights from this Sunday’s Breakfast Club.
