The New Mclaren Spider, the MP4-12S
Thanks to the spies at CarMagazine, we can now confirm that the Spider variant of the phenomenal MP4-12C is underway and according to our info, will be an absolute knock out. As we have previously reported, McLaren will use a super light carbon fiber roof for the Spider, which will flip backwards and retract into a compartment between the engine and passengers. The use of carbon fiber will help the roof weigh far less than a conventional soft top.
We can clearly see from the images below (and renderings) the rear of the vehicle will be constructed differently from the coupe as well, with the rear deck to be a relatively flat surface similar to the Ferrari 458 Spider. The best feature of the new rear deck, however, is there will be a clear cover so the engine will be able to be ogled by awestruck bystanders.
The Spider’s Power will be via the same outstanding 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo that puts out of a massive 608 hp.
