Team Speed Hits the Brakes and Reflects On an Amazing Year

Hypercars, classic cars, big speed records and more highlight an amazing 2019 for Team Speed.

We truly live in a time where there is no shortage of speed. Hot hatchbacks are pushing 400 horsepower on the regular and top speeds are now exceeding 300 miles per hour. Road cars are nearly as fast as Le Mans prototype racers, and cars are now sold with over 800 horsepower.

Clearly things are going our way.

We took a look back at some of our favorite moments from 2019. The amount of speed news was so numerous that a list like this could never truly cover everything. What we would like to hear from you is your favorite speed news form through the year as well!

2020 Toyota Supra Debuts at Detroit Auto Show

2019 year review TeamSpeed
One of the most anticipated cars to debut this year is arguably the Toyota Supra. After years of teasing from Toyota, we finally were able to see and drive it and we weren’t disappointed. The jury is still out on whether it will be as iconic as its predecessor.

Bentley Celebrates 100 Years with Debuts at Geneva Auto Show

2019 year review TeamSpeed
Bentley had a significant birthday in 2011, and used the Geneva Auto Show to celebrate the occasion. Debuting were the Mulsanne W.O. edition, replete with a mounted section of W.O. Bentley‘s personal 8-liter car from 1930. Bentley also debuted the Bentayga Speed, with 626 horsepower, and the convertible Continental GT.

McLaren Senna GTR: Ultimate Racetrack Driving Experience

2019 year review TeamSpeed
If you wanted a track toy, the McLaren Senna GTR might just fit the bill. No longer needing equipment for being road-legal, the GTR takes the Senna up to 11. Power increases and aero enhancements over the road-going Senna mean the GTR is ready to attack any circuit.

2019 year review TeamSpeed
One of the greatest aspects about the TeamSpeed community is our members. Talent is in spades with many, but it turns out we have one member who’s a truly talented artist. The artist, on our forums as Vic82, has prints for sale and does commissioned work as well. A perfect addition to any garage.

Racing Legend Niki Lauda Dies Age 70

2019 year review TeamSpeed
One sad note of 2019 was a farewell to racing legend Niki Lauda. A former champ and Ferrari racer, Lauda then found himself as an important part of AMG’s Formula 1 team. The movie RUSH highlighted his tremendous fiery crash at the Nurburgring, only to make an incredible comeback and continue racing despite being scarred. Surely a man who will be deeply missed.

Porsche Reopens Iconic Nardò Test Track

2019 year review TeamSpeed
One of the most famous test tracks in the world, Nardò, has been re-opened by Porsche. The Italian track was built in the 70’s and when Porsche acquired it in 2012, it needed a complete overhaul. Now with new and improved safety features for the high speed track, Porsche is ready to open it for testing. They have also promised outside manufacturers confidentiality and privacy if they choose to use the facility for future car development.

Bugatti Breaks Speed Record!

2019 year review TeamSpeed
Bugatti’s Chiron is meant to take all of the achievements of the Veyron and push the envelope even farther. How much father? 304.773 miles per hour. The speed was set with a modified Chiron with an extended tail section. Though, as we know, this speed is being contested for only being set in one direction. We have a feeling Bugatti will silence the critics in 2020.

Porsche Taycan Lands On U.S. Shores At Los Angeles International Auto Show

2019 year review TeamSpeed
One of Porsche’s more significant vehicles, the Taycan, had its North American debut at the L.A. Auto show. Being Porsche’s first foray into all-electric vehicles, the splash this makes for the Stuttgart company will pave the way for future electrification of Porsche models.

Aston Martin Valkyrie Hypercar Driven at Speed!

2019 year review TeamSpeed
Arguably one of the best things about 2019 is the increase in the number of hypercars. Aston Martin‘s Valkyrie is one of those vehicles, and despite the world moving towards electric assistance, this car is motivated by a 6.5 liter V12. We simply can’t get enough.
