Race Recap: Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach

Under sunny California skies, Australia’s Will Power roared through the field from 12th starting position in his Team Penske Chevrolet to win the IZOD IndyCar Series Race at the 38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, and Teamspeed’s John Hietter was front row with camera in hand.

This was John’s first time covering an INDY race and from what he told me this was an amazing experience covering a race whose podium wasn’t set until the final lap, when a crash in the hairpin took out some of the top runners. As they say, It’s not over ’till it’s over.

Winner Will Power was noted as saying: “This is a very sweet victory, because I’ve been here on pole like three times and it frustrated me that almost every year something would happen and I wouldn’t win,” Power said. “Since I was starting 12th, I felt as though it was impossible to win today, but it was a good race, pushed hard all the time, made no mistakes, great strategy and just a great team effort again.”

We’d like to extend our congratulations to the winning connections and a special thanks to John for the amazing photography. Until next time!
