This Is How the New Turbo 3.0 Sounds in the Updated Porsche 911 Carrera

It looks like the Porsche 911 Turbo isn’t the only turbocharged 911 these days. Porsche’s debut of a turbo 3.0 flat-six came at the Hockenheim Ring in Germany, and this is our first taste of what it’ll sound like.

For those of us like myself who prefer natural aspiration, and the visceral howl that accompanies this, the thought of a turbo being placed in the way of a good engine note has crossed my mind more than once. Thankfully, though, it seems this iteration will retain the lovely burbles, pops and so forth.

Now, we understand it won’t have the GTS scream to an astronomical redline, but turbos do have an ace up their sleeve. Tuning. The moment these hit consumers’ garages, tuning companies are going to work to extract more grunt from the little three-liter engine. When they do, we will be sure to cover it. Meanwhile, you can take a look at the start-up/rev video below, as well as some sedate lapping of the Hockenheim Ring right here.
