The Porsche 918 Spyder is Beautifully Handmade

Apart from the small tinkering sounds coming out of the leatherwork area and the occasional whiz of a compressed air tool, all you hear is…silence. That’s really the most impressive thing about the following video. We’re so used to seeing the high-revving, tire-shredding beast of a hypercar known as the Porsche 918 Spyder making tarmac ripple with its immense power that we often forget human hands put it together.

Fascination with the manufacturing process is nothing new, but to be allowed access to Porsche’s innermost depths and see them this up close is about as cool as it gets. From the careful stitching and fitment of leather over interior panels to the screwing together of that magnificent V8, all parts of the manufacturing process are covered.

Throughout the video, I couldn’t help but replay in my head the amazing things this car has done, especially that super-sonic lap that it completed at the Nurburgring. Expectations are high for the end of the video, but just when you’re waiting for the climax of the mechanic starting the 918 and the handmade wonder erupting into life, it doesn’t. It rolls off the assembly line in eerie silence, just as intended.
