Porsche 911 GT3 RS Battles AMGs and a Nissan GT-R

By -

Some of the world’s quickest road cars go head-to-head with the Porsche shining brightest.

The Porsche 991.1 911 GT3 RS is one of the most track-capable street cars in the world and it should be, as many aspects of the package were borrowed from the world of endurance racing. However, the video above from the cvdzijden – Supercar Videos YouTube channel shows that the GT3 RS can hang with the best supercars on the road in a drag race, taking on and beating the likes an AMG GT and a Nissan GT-R.

Track-Bred Performance

The 991.1 era Porsche 911 GT3 RS has a body that is modeled after the company’s GT3 endurance racers, with an aggressive front fascia and a huge rear wing. This package also has a lightweight body, center-lock wheels and – most importantly – a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged flat-six that creates 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque. In the 3,131-pound 911, that output makes for one crazy-quick sports car.

This package makes the 991.1 911 GT3 RS one of the best-performing road cars in the world, but in this video, the Porsche isn’t blasting around a curvy track – it is going head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the world of modern performance.

The Introduction

The video above begins with a few short clips of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS blasting along a country road with people lined up to capture pictures and video footage. In the quiet setting, we get a great chance to hear the flat-six roar prior to launch and as the car races off into the distance.

The first hard pull is from a slow roll while the second is from a stop, with the use of launch control. The Akrapovic exhaust provides a beautiful note before and after the launch and, as you might imagine, the 500 horsepower Porsche moves out like a beast.

Supercar Battles

After flexing alone, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS heads to the track for some side-by-side drag racing action with a handful of strong competitors. This includes the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63, the Nissan GT-R and another 991.1 911.

After pummeling the GT, the GT-R and the C63, the GT3 RS lines up with the other Porsche that could be a 911 R or it could be a Carrera, so we don’t know what kind of power that wingless sports car is packing. Unfortunately, the driver of the GT3 RS sleeps at the starting line while the other 911 races to an easy win, but in every race where the 911 with the big aero kit gets off the line in a hurry – it beats everything that lines up.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
