Pirelli to introduce new F1 tires in 2012
Pirelli has announced that it will use the P Zero Yellow soft compound, along with a new profile to form the basis of next year’s medium tires.
The only tire to not change in the 2012 season will be the supersoft compound, and February will be the first time we get to see the new tire set when teams begin testing in Spain.
Brazil was also the debut of the P Zero Yellow soft compound with Mark Webber using it to good effect. Webber employed a three-stop strategy, using three sets of soft tires and one set of medium tires to win the race by 16.9 seconds from his team mate when Vettel suffered gearbox problems.
Brazil was Webber’s seventh career victory, handing him third place in the final championship standings. Interestingly, the fastest lap was set on the P Zero White medium tire, by Webber, on the very final lap of the race.
