Tesla P85D Insane Mode vs McLaren 650S Spider
Lots of talk has been going around about a YouTube race between a Hellcat and a Tesla, and how the Tesla made a big splash in the water with the results of that race. But how well does the electric wonder fare against a McLaren 650s? Not as swimmingly, as you’d expect. Though the immense torque of the Tesla launches it off the line with much aplomb, the 650S reels it in with quite a high closing rate (and subsequently leaves it in the dust).
This, of course, isn’t to diminish the performance of the Tesla, which in various forms has been with us since 2012. Only recently was “insane mode” introduced, and it has been vaporizing the egos of many sports car owners ever since. With “ludicrous” mode on the horizon, all sorts of new cars will line up next to the silent but deadly P85D. And many will likely fail at launch, since that performance upgrade will mean your trip from standstill to 60 is completed in a scant 2.8 seconds. Perhaps that’ll eke out a bit more of an edge in the short sprint, but we will have to see if it can handle the top end speed found in cars like the McLaren in the video below.
