Our Favorite Porsches Headed to CCA’s Upcoming Auction
Whether your looking for a great deal or a fully restored gem, Classic Car Auctions has plenty of Porsches to choose from.
It’s no secret that we here at Team Speed have a thing for Porsches. And we know that you do, too. Thus, as we often do, we found ourselves immersed in Classic Car Auctions’ upcoming August 3 sale. There we found a number of interesting Porsches ranging from a full-blown restored 924 to more than one nice air-cooled 911. And surprisingly enough, we found more than one potential deal. So scope out our favorite Porsches below, and head over here to peruse all the lots preparing to cross the block!
1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa
Who doesn’t love an air-cooled 911? Nobody, that’s who. And this gorgeous ’88 Carrera Targa has pretty much everything you’d want in a later car. That includes Porsche’s legendary 5-speed transmission, a giant whale tail, and a delicious 3.2-liter flat-six with just under 100k miles. On top of that, the auction estimate of $35-$40k isn’t that bad in today’s market, either.
1980 Porsche 924 Turbo S1
Far too many people sleep on the 924, but the Turbo examples are plenty of fun. And this ’80 might just be the nicest one you’ll ever lay eyes on. The previous owner treated this Porsche to a full-blown professional restoration, leaving it in nearly perfect condition. That includes a full mechanical rebuild, meaning you shouldn’t have to worry about anything for a while. Throw in a bargain basement auction estimate of $20-$25k, and we’re positive the seller is losing a great deal of money here.
1988 Porsche 928 S4
If you love V8-powered, front-engine Porsches, you’ll love this 58k original-mile 928. The car remains in absolutely superb condition and just received a new cam belt and water pump a couple thousand miles ago. With that out of the way, the new owner can just drive and enjoy this Marine Blue beauty for many years to come.
1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa
Finding any decent air-cooled 911 for $25-31k isn’t that easy these days. But this sub-100k-mile ’78 looks to be in pretty darn solid condition for that estimate. The previous owner kept it for 23 years, leaving it in storage for a good portion of that time. The result is a car that needs a little polish and shine here and there. But for a very low initial investment cost, you’ll have a very nice car with a future value pointing straight up.
1988 Porsche 944
A mere 77 examples of this 944 made it to English shores, making this Silver Rose car rather rare. It’s also still a solid performer by today’s standards, doing 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and topping out at 162 mph. But despite all that and the car’s great looks (in our opinion), it looks like a screaming deal. In fact, the auction estimate pegs its value at just $10-$12k.
