Nikki Sixx's Ferraris Got the Looks that Kill

Rock legend’s car collection expresses his ever-present wild side.

Musician Nikki Sixx likes his cars like he likes his music: wild, loud, and totally kickass, which is why he drives a Ferrari. The rock god and former Mötley CrĂŒe bassist prefers the Ferrari above all other rides and even uses a 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider as his daily driver. While these days Sixx lives a more mellow life than in his untamed, live wire days in Mötley CrĂŒe, that doesn’t mean he’s slowed down.

“I like to drive really fast, and if I can find a place to open my car up, I’ll do it. And there’s always that moment that I find I’m doing 140 mph,” Sixx once revealed to Pure Grain Audio. “I love the thrill of that….That’s great. I love speed.”

Sixx got a taste for Ferrari’s back in the 1980s, when he owned a Testarossa for many years before eventually retiring it. He currently has a 2014 Ferrari 246 Italia, a 2010 Ferrari California, as well as his 458 Spider. Sixx prefers his cars to be convertibles, and apparently, his favorite color is black with a red-hot interior. “This car is a 10 all day, no matter if you’re on the open road, in winding canyons or even stuck in traffic,” Sixx told Motor Trend about his love of the 458 Spider. “It’s fast as a shark and yet comfortable enough to take daily or even on a long haul.”

In addition to his Ferraris, the Sixx: A.M. musician is an enthusiastic car collector who often likes to switch up his line up. He has collected Jeeps; a few hot rods; some american muscle in the form of a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS; a 1957 Chevy Bel Air; a 1932 Ford Highboy; a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur; a Porsche 914 and 996; and a custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

He’s sold many of these in favor of the Ferraris. Except the Porsche, which met with an unfortunate demise. Says Sixx of the Porsche: “I spent every nickel that I had. I had to call my grandparents to get enough money for license and registration. So, I was actually in debt, but I had a Porsche and I was in a rock f–kin’ band and that was it. I made it. I was cool until I wrapped it around telephone pole.” It should be noted that in true rockstar fashion, Sixx crashed into the telephone pole while driving the Porsche completely naked.

‘Automobiles are really an amazing drug for me. Everything about them. How they look, how they ride, how fast they go.’

As for his choice of perfect Ferrari driving music? Sixx told the Detroit Free Press in 2003 that he’d choose “AC/DC, Judas Priest, the Buzzcocks, and, of course, the Ramones. From my own songs, I’d say ‘Kickstart My Heart.'”

While Sixx enjoys life in the fast lane, he truly appreciates how lucky he is to enjoy a life today with success and automotive excess. The multi-talented entertainer recalls one such moment while driving in his Ferrari California.

“I was listening to Aerosmith’s second album, Get Your Wings, and I was thinking to myself, ‘This sure is a long way from the farm,’” said Sixx. “I was smiling and Joe Perry texted me and said, ‘Hey man, how are you?’ I looked at the phone and just was like, ‘Man, I can’t believe how amazing my life is.’

“And then the phone rang and it was Paul Stanley from KISS and we started talking about the tour. If life is good, then with a Ferrari, it’s even better.

“Automobiles are really an amazing drug for me,” he added. “Everything about them. How they look, how they ride, how fast they go. I get into my ’57 Chevy and I’m transported to another time.”
