Next Generation Mercedes-Benz SL
Our trusty Teamspeed Spies bring us brand new images today of the next generation Mercedes-Benz SL that appears to be a production ready example. Seen here with very little camouflage left on, the new pictures provide a complete view on the new aluminum body, revealing the sculptured doors which until now have been covered up by the black matte camouflage.
The current model SL has been around since 2001 and has received a face-lifts in 2006 and 2008. The 2013 Mercedes SL will feature a sharper, more upright nose, making it more similar to the front of the new SLK and CL models. The new roadster will be larger, but weigh less then the outgoing SL thanks to its new aluminum body that reduces weight by more than 100kg. We do not believe these smaller looking wheels and tires will make it to production and are just for testing purposes.
We have been informed the new SL roadster will be powered by a new twin-turbo V8 engine. This 4.7 liter engine provides 435 horsepower. In addition there will be a V6 and there still maybe a possibility of V12, even though earlier reports suggest Mercedes will be ditching he V12 engine all together. The SL63 AMG and SL65 AMG are in the works as well.
As we have mentioned before expect the official unveiling at the Detroit Auto show next January and to hit the showrooms in spring.
