FoxPro Films shines the spotlight on two 2017 Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACRs that are so awesome they got the world to rally around them.

The Nurburgring, aka the “Green Hell,” is the gold standard when it comes to testing the speed of automobiles. While some of the most amazing race cars have tested their speed on the track, there have been plenty of production vehicles that have put up some impressive times, as well. As far as American cars go, the best of the bunch has been the Dodge Viper, with a lap time of 7:12 in 2011.

Unfortunately, with the Viper ending production in 2017, there wouldn’t be another chance to improve that time in the future. Well, that’s where a group of Viper enthusiasts come in. As seen in the new documentary 7:01: The Story of Viper’s Return to the Green Hell, a crowdfunding campaign surfaced online to send two production-model 2017 Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACRs from a showroom in Texas to Germany to attempt to break the record for fastest Nurburgring lap by a production vehicle.

The 7:01: The Story of Viper’s Return to the Green Hell doc isn’t your typical racing film. While there’s the requisite shots of beautiful Vipers going fast around a track, the real story is with the people. These Viper fans are putting blood, sweat, and tears into an attempt to set a record. This record isn’t just a way to show the Viper is a fast vehicle, but it’s a way to allow the Viper to leave a lasting mark on the automobile industry.

By setting a record, they can show that this incredible vehicle made by Dodge isn’t just another American sports car in the same way the Mustang or Corvette are. No, the Viper is a world-class vehicle that is every bit as good as anything made by Lamborghini or Porsche.

7:01 does an excellent job of being a story about one of the best American cars to ever be produced, while also being a human story of overcoming obstacles in the face of what seems like insurmountable odds.

If you’re a fan of Vipers, or just fast cars in general, you owe it to yourself to watch this short documentary.
