Hoonigan Takes a Rally Porsche 911 On a Frozen Lake (Video)

By -

What happens when you put two photographers behind the wheel of a supercharged rally Porsche? They have fun, duh.

Larry Chen and Will Roegge get to take a Kelly Moss prepped rally 911 for a little fun on a frozen lake. It’s a 964 with a supercharger, 10-inches of suspension travel, and all-wheel drive. In other words: badass. This is precisely the kind of fun we love watching, especially when it’s Hoonigan putting the video together.

While you might think these guys would be hard to impress, Chen drops an industry tidbit right at the beginning that many may not have known. “We’ve traveled the world together shooting interesting things, but we actually never get to drive ourselves.”

“It sounds like the supercharger is literally right behind your head,” Roegge said. Chen hadn’t let him in on the fact that the supercharger intake is actually in the rear seat. The two photographers are clearly having a good time, and it’s obvious they can’t keep the grins off their faces. Anyone who thinks they could do this and not be grinning like Chen and Roegge should go hoon something on a lake and report back.

The 911 is sporting a 3.8-liter flat-six with a supercharger running 6 psi. It’s good for about 450 hp. Andy Kilcoyne, manager of Kelly Moss, tell them the build was, “all about light weight and speed.” They do a bunch of carbon fiber work in-house, including the light pod on the hood and bezels on the headlights. The little touches really show how the project managed to end up being a $300,000+ SEMA build.

After the fun 911 bits, there’s some interesting footage and banter between the two guys. They talk about some hairy moments with shooting on frozen lakes. Chen even fell through the ice once!

The whole video is worth a watch if you like the Hoonigan crew. If you don’t, watch for the Porsche, which starts around 6:50 mark.
