Watch the McLaren 720S Takes a Sunday Stroll on the Dyno

McLaren’s newest baby is already known for its outrageous speed, but exactly how much horsepower does the 720S make?

It’s safe to say that the new McLaren 720S has taken the supercar world by storm. Not only is it gorgeous and technologically advanced, it’s… did we mention it’s gorgeous? Oh, and it’s also bloody fast!

McLaren 720S

The newest and hottest Brit is rated at 710 horsepower from the factory. That comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 mated to a seven-speed automatic. And unlike many cars in this segment nowadays, the 720S sends all of its power to the rear wheels  – and just the rear wheels.

This video from DragTimes in an exclusive look at a McLaren strapped to a dynamometer. After a short introduction by the owner, we learn that he’s upgraded the exhaust system. This is good and bad news. This modification obviously alters the horsepower readings. So we won’t find out what kind of power a bone-stock 720S produces in the real world today, but it’s still cool.

Regardless, the supercar is hooked up and goes for a short but meaningful ride. At the end of the run, the dyno reads 691 horsepower at the wheels. That’s about a 19-horsepower deficit from the OEM number. But again, remember that this car has a less restrictive aftermarket exhaust installed.

In the end, that’s still a massive amount of horsepower for a car that weighs 2,828 pounds, no?
